Confidence

Posted by
Betsy Barron (Philadelphia, PA, United States) on 28 April 2011 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

My little one - she is so precious. Very confident about so many things and yet still so shy in other ways. She took her big brother's dare and did the 'big rope swing' after riding the kiddie swing for a bit. Then we all saw a great big spider the size of my fist , and it was time to go home for dinner!!!!! :)

All the world’s a stage. Self-taught, still photographer Betsy Barron is a 80s child recalling the simple, natural pleasures of being outside and watching the light on her world. She’s a decades-long Philadelphia artist who combines her eye for form and function with the calm aesthetic of a passer by. Guided by light and lines with impact, her work speaks to the worth of daily pleasures and absorbing your field of view.

Betsy’s photography is part of many private and corporate collections in Philadelphia and New York. In 2014, she was selected to lead a fine art photography initiative with a worldwide luxury retailer.
She lives and works in suburban Philadelphia. See more at MY WEBSITE

DESPITE STRAIGHT LINES from United Kingdom

Beautifully presented frames, Betsy. There is something about being young and fearless, except with spiders of course! I have a deep and abiding phobia of spiders dating back to an incident in my childhood, so I would have run to the hills screaming like a mad thing if I'd encountered that one.

I think the fearless aspect is a vital part of growing up in those formative years, and perhaps later in life we learn to tread with caution and also learn fear as our awareness of life, and other people becomes more accute and aware. That's a reason why I think children should be allowed to stay as children for as long as my generation were allowed to, rather than being turned into mini adults as so many are these days, before they have had a chance to enjoy the simplicity of childhood. The big kid in me is still within and often comes to the fore, thanks to a wonderful childhood in which I was allowed to run free and explore without cares or fears. A lovely post that makes me think, and brings back great memories.

Your fine art website is superb, by the way. Have a great day.
