The Red Barn Redux

Posted by
Betsy Barron (Philadelphia, PA, United States) on 16 October 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Thanks for all your great comments & suggestions! I cropped down & in, dodged and burned a bit on the bales and the silo and added a frame. This is a much better image as a result! Thanks again, photo friends!

MUCH better, Bets. This version has a lot more "snap" and jumps off the screen at you. Let's see...if I know you...I bet you went and explored the inside of that old barn or climbed to the top of that silo to get a better angle of view, right?

Good morning Betsy! Yes, I agree with Russ, this image is stronger. The contrast you added makes the image pop and the dodging and burning helped to add depth...

Amazing what a little bit of cropping can do. Now that you've done it, I also notice the mounding pattern that repeats - the bales, the trees, the barn's shape, and then the background hills. It's a super shot Betsy.

This crop focusses well on the foreground, but I still like the immensity of the blue sky in the first shot just as well.
