Artist Colony

Posted by Betsy Barron (Philadelphia, PA, United States) on 20 August 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Spotted across the harbor on Monhegan Island - such an amazing place - lots of hiking (with a 30 lb pack!) but gorgeous scenery every which way you turn! I loved this little house - you may find me holed up there one day for an 'artist retreat' myself!

All the world’s a stage. Self-taught, still photographer Betsy Barron is a 70s child recalling the simple, natural pleasures of being outside and watching the light on her world. She’s a decades-long Philadelphia artist who combines her eye for form and function with the calm aesthetic of a passer by. Guided by light and lines with impact, her work speaks to the worth of daily pleasures and absorbing your field of view.

Betsy’s photography is part of many private and corporate collections in Philadelphia and New York. In 2014, she was selected to lead a fine art photography initiative with a worldwide luxury retailer.
She lives and works in suburban Philadelphia. See more at MY WEBSITE

I like the division of blue and green in this image - looks like a lovely place to go exploring (and shooting)

Wow, this is solitide. And yes, it would make a great retreat place for artists, monks, or who ever just wants to "get away" from all the noise of daily life. What a place! And what a great photo; your composition is really brilliant.

The negative space in this image is absolutely fantastic! One small hut on a small island on the Maine coast. I love the solitude that this conveys. Now, as long as there's no cell phone reception here, then this place would be perfect! But then, if the phone rings, you could always skip it out into the ocean, just like in the Bacardi commercial.

The framing that you have chosen is excellent, first class.

The tiny little house in the big, big world! I think that was the title to a children's book from when I was very young. This reminds me of that.

Thanks for your sweet messages !
Well, as far the pp is concerned, it's not easy to explain with my poor english but I'll try my best : select your sky (all the sky must be selected) and then use the radial blur... the best is to try and try and try... then you can desaturate or not your image...

@zOOm: thanks zOOm - I will try it - amazing work that you do!
